Alan West MBE - Lead Consultant
Alan West is an accomplished educator and consultant with over four decades of experience in STEM education. He brings a wealth of knowledge to STE(A)M-focused educational initiatives.
Alan has held several prominent roles, including National Director of CREST Awards, Chief Executive Officer of Exscitec and Director of The Reach Out Lab at Imperial College London.
He has extensive international experience, serving as a High-Level STEM Education Consultant for the British Council and the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam, and as Lead Consultant for STEMax in Ho Chi Minh City. Additionally, he is the sole agent and trainer for the British Association CREST Awards in Vietnam.
Awarded an MBE in 2011 for his services to STEM education, Alan’s career spans teaching, curriculum development, educational technology, and public speaking. His vast expertise makes him an ideal trainer for STE(A)M programme development and delivery coupled with training of trainer programmes.

Angelina Murphy - STEAM Ambassador & Consultant
Angelina developed a new technology to assist prosthetic wearers in programming new grips on demand for their prosthetic hands and built virtual reality tools to help medical students learn faster and more effectively.
She was also a finalist for the NOVA prize, in recognition of women who have made outstanding early contributions to STEM/STEAM.
Now she helps businesses realise the value in technological advances like the Cloud and AI
Maximilian Manss - STEAM Ambassador & Consultant
Max helped to secure the first UK university win at Formula Student UK in 2017 through his composite design and manufacturing experience.
He designed and manufactured the world’s lightest integrated handlebar and stem in 2018 whilst at THM Carbones.
Max designed, manufactured and tested a range of 5 ultra-lightweight motors for UAV’s in addition to the company’s first automotive motor
Now designing the next generation of permanent magnet synchronous electric machines for automotive applications.
Tony Thinh - STEAM Ambassador & Consultant
Thinh is the CEO and founder of STEAMax JSC, a company specialising in the design and delivery of internationally accredited STEM/STEAM programmes. With nine years of experience in the STEM education sector, Thinh has delivered STEM activities and programmes to students aged 3 to 19, as well as conducted teacher training sessions across Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.
Throughout his career, Thinh has researched and implemented a variety of international STEM education standards, including the CREST Awards, NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards), DOS (Dimensions of Success), Understanding by Design, among others, into his teaching practice and STEAM programmes.
He has also collaborated closely with esteemed UK organisations and with Mr Alan West MBE, a senior STEM education consultant, to enhance student assessment and reflection processes, thereby supporting students in obtaining recognised accreditation across Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Together with his company, Thinh also collaborates with Apple Education to design and deliver STEM-related content, enhanced by Apple technologies, to schools throughout Vietnam.
Philippa Cranwell - STEAM Ambassador & Consultant
Philippa is an expert in translating complex scientific concepts into clear, accessible content. She has an MChem degree (First Class) from the University of Southampton, a PhD in natural product synthesis from the University of Cambridge (Prof. Steven Ley) and completed postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich (Prof. Erick Carreira). She was an academic at the University of Reading for nearly a decade, ultimately promoted to Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry, as well as achieving CChem and FRSC status. With over 20 highly-cited publications in peer-reviewed journals, experience as an editor of the Thieme journal SynOpen, and having written several text-books for the leading publishers Wiley and OUP, she has nearly two decades of experience at the cutting-edge of chemistry.
Her substantial chemistry knowledge and background in teaching (culminating in several teaching awards) and outreach, including experience assessing and supervising CREST Awards, equips her with the unique ability to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and effective communication, perfect for delivering content that connects with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Karen Western - STEAM Ambassador & Consultant
Karen is a highly experienced and dedicated education professional who specialises in widening participation and inclusion for underrepresented groups. With a career spanning early years, family support, and higher education, she has a proven track record in developing and managing impactful services and projects for vulnerable learners, including care leavers, young carers, and mature students.
Her expertise encompasses strategic partnership development with local authorities and sector partners, policy implementation, and the training and management of staff and volunteers. A skilled leader and researcher, she holds an MA in Education, the NPQICL (National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership), and is currently completing her doctorate in Education. This robust academic foundation underpins her practical work and her deep commitment to evidence-based practice.
